A dental emergency is a serious issue that requires immediate attention to relieve pain, prevent further damage, or stop infection. This includes a tooth that is knocked out, broken, or severely cracked; severe toothache that spreads to the jaw, ear, or neck; lost or painful dental restorations such as crowns, bridges, or veneers; swelling, abscesses, or infections in the gums or soft tissues; and trauma to the mouth or face that causes bleeding or tissue injury. Essentially, if waiting for your next regular dental appointment could make the problem worse, it is considered a dental emergency.
